The Savior of Tactical Shooters?

Many gamers love to play shooters and so many of them play the arcade shooter that is Call of Duty.  Be it an instalment from Infinity Ward or Treyarch, they are hugely successful and attract hundreds of thousands of people into their online game modes. They are hugely competitive online but are they really tactical?

Well, many people like to think they have the ability to apply tactics to a CoD match in order to pull off a win, but in truth , they don’t. It’s all about skill in CoD. If you’re with a particularly decent squad the game is pretty much yours. You can say “this round we’ll camp A” or whatever but it isn’t proper tactics. No longer are shooters filled with strategic manoeuvres and set out plans which can turn the entire game into the other teams favour. They are just all about who is a better player… and that isn’t actually very fun at all, especially if you’re not very good at CoD. Now, Nathan and myself are pretty average gamers, we can succeed at most games if we put our mind to it and can pull off decent scores whilst having a good time. But at the moment we both no longer play Call of Duty to any major extent, if at all. The simple reason is that we no longer find it fun.

Now, not too sound to stereotypical here, but Call of Duty is a game filled with gamers who are must crazy about achieving a good K/D, no matter what the cost, even losing. Now what is the point in that?! Sure, you pull off a great 5.0 K/D, but your team lost! You failed your primary objective. Now, I’m not great at CoD, I think I sit at about a 1.5 K/D and I’m fine with that, the game is pretty fun, yet I do not play it anymore because I hate losing, when it comes to games I am pretty competitive. It’s not usually my fault we lose, its people who refuse to even attempt to “play the objective” and truthfully, it pisses me off!
Shooters should be more realistic; you should set your mind to completing the objective, be it planting a bomb, capturing a base or whatever. But, this isn’t happening in CoD and we all know it. So, which game can we turn too? Which developer shall be the saviour of the thinking man’s shooter?

Well, I believe we can turn too, Ghost Recon Future Soldier for this! This title shall rely on tactics and actual thought before charging in. The multiplayer shall hopefully be all about completing the task ahead and not at all about bursting in, getting a “beast” K/D whilst insulting your opponents mother. I really hope the new Ghost Recon can pull this off, save us from ridiculous campers and spawn killers! Allow us to be in a squad who actually communicates and helps us out! Let us think about the game, put together a plan and put into action! Let us win! Hopefully, shooters can be saved, just because the biggest game series in the world has created the recipe for a “Big Sellling Shoot’em up” doesn’t mean everyone else has to follow it. And maybe, just maybe, GRFS has taken a different path.

  1. This is exactly the reason I no longer play COD games. Yes, they are fun for the silly game of respawn shot guns only or Mike Myers but they lack the heart pounding tension of a true tactical game. Our clan plays mostly S4 demolition for it's tactical nature. Even this game is nerfed. In what real world war can you step on your own mines and live. This was the fun of S2 you needed to tell your team that you placed a mine somewhere.

I too hope GRFS does not have kill flags over the bomb carriers head. It seams COD is designed to keep you running no matter what the game type unless you only care about K/D and you camp someones spawn.

Our clan is made up of software and hardware engineers and we don't see why campers cannot be kicked from a game. Just detect when someone scores repeated kills on opponents withing N seconds of their spawning. I like seeing that GRFS is detecting camping and opens up new spawn points. They could go farther and warn the offending team they will forfeit or kick the guilty player.

  2. Yeah, i totally agree with what your saying, GRFS would be truly amazing if it could implement this type of gameplay. For too long these ridiculous shooter 'tactics' have been going on. Thanks for the comment.

  3. I look forward to your review of the beta. I would love to pre-order this game but I am no longer pre-ordering on the hype of the companies. I have been burned too many times with buggy releases. I wish I had a beta code to review this game for the clan but I will send them links to videos and reviews I find useful.

    1. I am very sorry to say that we have struggled to get our hands on a beta key. Even through pre-ordering we have not gotten one. For this, I am really sorry. But I shall make sure that all the news and content that I deem important shall be put up on the site. Thanks for commenting on our posts, it is awesome that your getting involved.
